The Head of Safeguarding will work with the Head of Clinical Services & Safeguarding to provide board level assurance that services within the Trust are being provided in accordance with the relevant regulatory and professional requirements. Leading a team and working alongside corporate colleagues in an educational and advisory capacity to deliver excellent safeguarding practice and high-quality patient care outcomes.
This is a strategic post that works collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure a strong multiagency approach to safeguarding across all our boundaries.
The role requires strong professional leadership with the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills to enable and empower all staff to develop best practice, inspire progressive change and embed safeguarding into all our daily business and clinical work.
The Safeguarding team are part of the Chief Nurse Directorate and provide expert advice, support and training for both Children’s and Adults safeguarding legislation, practice, systems and processes.

Working collaboratively with partner agencies and the MK Together Partnership to ensure a strong multiagency approach to safeguarding practice.
The post holder will lead the Trust Safeguarding Team that includes Named professionals for both safeguarding adults, children and Maternity (Named Maternity Safeguarding lead line managed by Deputy HOM but accountable to Head of safeguarding) Named Doctor for safeguarding children and Named Doctor for safeguarding adults ( Line management with the medical team integrated working with Head of safeguarding and the wider safeguarding team) Vulnerable Adults Nurse, Specialist safeguarding Children Nurse and safeguarding administration support to deliver excellent safeguarding practice and high quality patient care outcomes.
This is a senior post that contributes to the trusts strategic direction for safeguarding provides leadership and support, ensuring that MKUH is compliant with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and that as a Trust we effectively discharge our statutory/legislative obligations and responsibilities.

- The post holder will demonstrate expert practice, maintain competence, and keep abreast of advances in Safeguarding and the Patient Care and Safety agenda to ensure effective management of all patients at increased risk of harm and those who pose a significant risk to others. The achievement of this will be through a variety of approaches, direct patient care planning, clinically based demonstration and training, consultation activity, research and audit, learning from National and local learning reviews.
- Line manages the Safeguarding Named Nurses and supporting the professional objectives for these professionals and the team. To ensure the service meets the needs of the organisation.
- The role is integral to ensuring excellent communication with senior staff across the Trust as well as with external agencies. The post holder will ensure the Safeguarding and quality of patient care agendas are closely aligned and follow local and national guidance.
- It is essential for the post holder to work with professionals from a wide variety of disciplines to develop policy and protocols.
